How can I improve my drawing skills? Here's how you can- | Quality VS. Quantity
Everyone want's to improve in drawing, right? Everyone wants to make masterpieces... But how to actually excel in that? What should we focus on? How can we improve ourselves effectively? To find out, keep on reading!
QUALITY VS. QUANTITY
This is a quite debated topic. We often hear people say, quality of a product is what matters and not on the quantity. Well… When it comes to drawing, it’s just the opposite!
What’s the biggest fear before starting to draw? Yes, we are afraid of the OUTCOME. And, that’s the reason why most people are AFRAID of art. We always have the mentality that, whatever we do, it should be PERFECT but NO, it’s not just about art, rather, about life in general. The thing is, the more you put in the work, the more you’re going to get good at it! Yeah! That’s the key right there! If you want to be a poet, go start writing poems. At the beginning, it’s obvious that you’ll write crappy poetry at the beginning, but the more you write, the more you’re going to learn, the more you’re going to experience, you’ll get to know your mistakes and finally, one day you’ll write a poem that will surely give you some recognition! Similarly, it applies to other forms of art like, story writing, movie-making and obviously, Drawing! So, in easy words, Quantity > Quality
If you want to start drawing, just focus on putting in the work. Because, the result/outcome is not what you can control, but what you can control is, the amount of work you put in.
Okay! But, how can I force myself to do that?
It's simple! Take up challenges like 100 days of sketching & Inktober. These challenges will force to push yourself to the limit. Recently, I've completed 100 Days of Sketching and I'm currently doing Inktober! Challenges like these, really helps in improving your drawing skills and whenever you finish it, it actually feels like an accomplishment!
Take myself as an example...
Here's how I used to draw before 100 days of sketching-
Now, you decide which is better!
Here’s a story before concluding:
There was a school which taught pottery. One year, the school decided to divide their students into two groups. Groups A & B. Group A will be graded on the basis of their quality of pots they make. Group B will be graded on the basis of the quantity of pots they make.
As a result, Group A
focused on making that one excellent pot and, group B made lots and lots of
pots. After a year when both the teams were to be graded, the teachers were
surprised to see that, the QUALITY of pots by Team B was WAY BETTER than that
that of Team A!
So yeah, in case of art, QUANTITY > QUALITY
And, if you’re still worrying about your results then here’s what my favorite music band ‘The Score’ has said after releasing their new EP:
“As human beings we are innately flawed, but those flaws make us unique. Instead of running from our flaws, we should embrace them because in those flaws we find the strength to grow. Our imperfections are what make us superheroes.”

That's it for today!
Have a great day ahead!
