Can't get original ideas to draw!? Here's why- | Your Creative Bank Account

Hello there!
A warm welcome to the first ever Blog of 'Rule of 3rd's'!
Since, this is the first time... So... there might be some errors... but I hope you'll enjoy it!
So, without wasting any time, let's dive right into today's topic!

Your Creative Bank Account

Has this ever happened to you that you sit down to draw or write a story or maybe even you sit down to write that essay to complete your homework to turn it in to the teacher the next day, and you don’t have any ideas on that particular topic??? Or, you’re completely clueless about what to do…

Well… that’s because your creative bank account is empty!

Let’s think of an ordinary bank account. You need to make a deposit to actually withdraw from it. Whenever we need to buy something, we burst open our piggy bank to get some money to afford that particular thing. Same is the thing with creativity… Or, you can say, our brain is like a pressure cooker. It requires ingredients in order to cook something unique & delicious.

You want to make a cool drawing or you want to write a short story, but you don’t know how to start and what to do… Well… you’ve had to make a deposit.

Now, how to actually make a deposit?

Consume the things that you love TO THE NEXT LEVEL! What I mean by this is, if you love watching sci-fi movies, go and watch them but at the same time, watch the genre of movies that you don’t prefer that much… like, in my case, watching “Romedy movies”(Romantic Comedy). You might get some ideas from it which you might not have expected like in case of drawing and story writing, it helps in ‘character designing’. Well… this was just an example, CONSUME THE THINGS THAT YOU LOVE!

If you’re interested, here’s a list of what I like to do in order to make my deposit:

  • ·        Surrounding myself with pictures & drawings that inspire me
  • ·        Reading ALL-KINDS of books
  • ·        Surround myself with my own drawings, which are like, “Know what, you need to draw like that again!”
  • ·        Go and play some outdoor games and mix with all different kinds of people
  • ·   Go & visit a museum, library or maybe even the science center located in your city…
  • ·        Literally COPY other Artists TO LEARN… but don’t plagiarize (which is totally another ball game which I don’t want to dive into…)

Why to actually make a deposit?

The answer is simple. To churn up and grind all the information & experiences that you’ve gained and incorporate that into your work, so that, when you’ve to call upon your own creativity… you can make something worth it. And, you’ll have enough creative capital to rely upon!

Thanks to one of my favorite artists, Jake Parker for proposing this concept of 'Creative Bank Account'.

That’s it for today!
Hope you like it!
Have a great day ahead!
